Mount Batur

History
Mount Batur is an active volcano formed thousands of years ago inside a massive caldera created by ancient eruptions. It has erupted many times throughout history, shaping the surrounding lava fields and landscape seen today.
In Balinese Hindu culture, Mount Batur is considered sacred and closely connected to Pura Ulun Danu Batur, one of Bali’s most important temples dedicated to the goddess of water and fertility. Despite its volcanic activity, the mountain remains an important spiritual and cultural symbol for local communities.
